Limited
The
Company was incorporated as Ceylon Insurance Company Limited in
1939, and commenced insurance business that very same year.
It was the first-ever public limited company to be registered in
Sri Lanka, and carries the registration number "PBS/1".
It also became the leading insurance company amongst all insurers
both foreign and local in Sri Lanka, in the early 1960s. In 1964,
it had to cease operating in the insurance business, following nationalisation
of the insurance industry. Today, the company's principle line of
business is renting high quality office space to clients.
"Ceylinco House", constructed by the company, was and
is still is a prestigious landmark in Colombo, being the first skyscraper
to grace the city's skyline. The Company has forayed into providing
Mobile Maintenance Units for its clients.
