Diamonds Ltd., incorporated in 1974, has the distinction of opening
up a totally new area of commercial activity in Sri Lanka. The Company
also saws Diamonds, and its quality remains unparalleled to date.
Blue Diamonds is said to be one of the largest 'site-holders' of
the Diamond Trading Corporation (DTC), London.
The success of Blue Diamonds was based from its very inception on
a policy of supplementing the skills found within the local gem
industry, with a thorough training programme conducted by foreign
experts, regular refresher courses in Sri Lanka and abroad, and
the use of the most modern machinery. Thus, traditional Sri Lankan
craftsmanship was blended with cutting-edge technology.
Blue Diamonds
expanded rapidly, setting-up Diamond sawing & cleaving sections.
The success of their exports was rewarded with the prestigious Presidential
Award in 1991 & 1994, the National Chamber of Export Award in
1995 & 1996, NCE Export Award Certificate in 1994, 1995, 1996
& 1997, NEA Export Award in 1993 & 1994, and the Export
Development Council of Ministry Awards in 1987.
Blue Diamond's factory produces a range of polished diamonds from
round brilliants to fancy- cut stones such as The Fire-Rose, The
Baugette, Marquise, The Heart and Arrows (Perfect Make), and the
Princess Cut to name but a few.
In the new millennium, Blue Diamonds has perfected and introduced
the 100-facet Blue Diamonds Millennium Diamonds.
This success
has also paved the way for 13 other Diamond cutting & polishing
projects to be set-up in Sri Lanka. Blue Diamonds now provides direct
and indirect employment to over 1,700 people.
